Traveler's Lament

Contributed by Sagacious on Thursday, 2nd September 2004 @ 03:44:12 PM in AEST
Topic: didactic

A boundary serves
but a single purpose:

to stoke imaginations
unused to unrestrained

continuances.

One land, undivided,
neither stands nor falls,

but rests in its vastness,
unconcerned by politics

and nuances--

of shadings on a map,
of laws and legislations

designed to keep a nation's
errant, inside, looking

outside, in.

Impressively succinct muse on the political ramifications of . . .

'outside, in'.

I like that. Keep writing more like it.

Please.

My dearest Sagacious! You have returned! It's been so long! My friend, I'm not going to try and convince myself that I understand this. Although, I do understand some of it! lol... Short yet, compelling! If you don't mind, can you send me an explaination of this complex piece? When you have the time, of course! lolz... Alrighty, mon ami! I'm overjoyed that you are back! Sagacious=wise, keen perception, knowing... You live up to your name! Thought provoking piece, mon cheri ami! Can't wait till your next one comes! All my love, dearest friend! Forever yours,

Fleur de souffrance! Stephy.

Everytime I read you, It reminds me of this glimpse I had... Burned into my memory and mind by its radient white hot glory, the truth poked through the chain link fence that caught my mind in this basket of burden. it said to me "you are the same, we are the same, it is all the same." I turned my head away, in shallow desperation. In simple needing. For the sake of desire itself. You are a sieve in the water, and stolen away from the trappings.

Aw I missed your work (The Bones of Saints is still my fave though). I'm glad that I actually understood this one. Must the traveler really lament though? Like you said, a boundary or any other marking stokes the imagination - they assign a sort of rigidity that people's minds rebel against and by doing so grasp more strongly after its opposite (the culture, the humanity of the area). Ah but I love it =)
