To Exist

Contributed by eatfresh22 on Wednesday, 1st September 2004 @ 02:16:23 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Death's snickering face
Has become a tempting smile
When the life I live
Is merely death in denial.

Forcibly tied down
To monotonous routine
Long day after day---
This life is mockery!

I'm ready to live!
Though to babbling fools
I am chained to for years
At a wretched, dull school.

I desire freedom
To begin my future
For life with the careless
Is horrible torture.

Not allowed yet to live
And Death is not close
Where do I abide...?
In between these two foes.

Death! Capture me!
Oh, but I fear you have missed.
Life! Consume me!
For all I do....is exist.

good poem, but so desolate! But Carrie, you are a Christian! You have the Hope of Chirst! Truly remember.... Ecclesiastes 12:13.... That is why we exist. To glorify God! What more wonderful of a calling than this can you imagine?

What? I thought you loved your school!

Good piece, as I said before. Though I like you reading it slightly more than just reading it off the page. And I love the expression in that first stanza.

Charming! Beautiful! And you told me the same thing you told Andrew.... Oh well. I agree with him though; hearing it from your lips was something special. Of course... well, you know.
Take care.
I love you.

AhhhhhhhhhhCarrie, you exist only if that's what you allow! Put on your radiant smile.....use your marvelous imagination that you use so readily in your poetry.........and live live, live..........read books and in your mind take trips......travel to the ends of the world, and stay put!!! Join a volunteer group, and help another.......so many wonderful things for young people today........never allow yourself to just exist.........get out there and do!
This was a very well written poem, and I really enjoyed much!

as you suggested in PM, i can relate.

both

"not allowed yet to live
and Death is not close"

and the entire last stanza were powerful and precise. sad, but oh so true.
