The Sun Dared Rise

Contributed by ShadowDaughter on Tuesday, 31st August 2004 @ 03:43:37 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

the sun rose this morning out of spite
and it shone so wrong in the sky
for you were not there
and would not ever be again

it rose, just as it did yesterday
when you were close (so close)
and it had the audacity, the cruelty
to be just as bright and beautiful
as it was when you were here

the sun rose and dared to be the same
when nothing else will ever be

it will be there tomorrow,
I am beginning to realize,
and the day following after
it will be there and you will not
and every day the sun will rise and remind me

and yet
you are gone and the sun has not ceased
still it rises, still it shines
and the taint upon its glow
will someday leave
and though it hurts to see it
there is at least this:

though you are far, still it rises--
life continues, persists,
all around me
and someday again the sun will rise and I will say,
"oh! what a bright, beautiful sun that is."

This is so beautiful, ShadowDaughter... It says so much..and left me wondering why indeed does the sun have to be so ever present when we have lost one we love.....I guess it is to replace the sunshine that is lost along with that loved one.....
Good write..

Excellent write, Nora. It tore down a few cobwebs in my brain and pain swollen heart. It is not fair that life goes on, but it does. Beauty should not be, but it is. He is dead and I am still alive. Life goes on no matter what happens. It just take a while to accept that you cannot die with them. You pretty well penned my feeling for the last 3 months. Maybe it is time for me to wake up and join the land of the living as that seems to be where I was left. Thank you, sweetie.

Rita

Stupid Sun! He's just as bad as that darn Moon that keeps showing up! *sigh*

I absolutely get this. You've taken what is an enormous feeling and somehow managed to put it into words. And so beautifully....

Again mesmerized and amazed at how much you are willing/able to say and how wonderfully you do so,
SNM

I might correct you on that--like right now for instance, I can't even see the sun on this my side of the world though the curtains of clouds.

Not that I'm being egotistical or anything, just a hypothetical situation.

How very positive and hopeful. I love hopeful poems, because this too will past. I enjoyed the way you brought out the question of the sun rising even tho you were sad. I'm so glad you are not so far removed that you know for sure, one day it will rise......and you will be reassured!
Lovely write
I enjoyed it very much

An excellent expression of the bitterness of life continuing as if nothing had gone wrong. Damn the sun and stars for not realizing nothing will ever be the same.
Very, very well done

Nora,

This poem is beyond recognition. You are so right in this... loss is the hardest of all things to recover from. Especially when the memory is still there. And life always goes on even when, sometimes, we cant.

"and someday again the sun will rise and I will say,
"oh! what a bright, beautiful sun that is.""
I hope it happens for you sooner rather than later.
