The dark is infinitely deep. There is no end to the dark it is always and eternal. At the deepest point in the ocean and at the most remote part of space, where no star light shines, the weight of the dark is enough to crush your ethereal soul. Without stars there is only the dark, without life there is only the dark. The dark was always there and will always be, for the dark is lack of light and light can be extinguished.
