It’s a fact, each generation
does believe that it’s inventing
what has not been there before,
and this applies to styles of music,
sex and drugs and rock ‘n’ roll,
clothes, romances and some more;
but in truth, it’s fair to say
that whatever youth’s experiencing
may be different yet not new -
though that’s the way it seems to be,
and if my memory serves me well
in my teens I thought so too.

Yes, Jordan, you are right. It is just different decades and different trends.

I quite liked this but
Off the top of my head: next time you're drunk, you'll wait until morning to do whatever

You're absolutely right. But.... even if "whatever youth's experiencing" is not so terribly new, maybe... there's some benefit in their thinking that it is. Believing so, maybe, let's them take one step beyond where prior generations stopped. And maybe, in that new place - they can discover something new and wonderful for all of us.
Hopelessly optimistic,
SNM |

Editor's note:
You are quite correct in what you've said SNM. It is the writer's point of view that the problem is with the adults rather than the youth. The poem is aimed at the adults; the youth require support.
