The Shadows

darkness creeps in the corners
slowly passing along the walls
a deathly quiet hangs in the air

i can hear someone
a rasping breath
yet it is my own

i can feel its presence
a creature of the darkness
ready to burst out of the shadows and rip out my heart

"think happy thoughts"
"think happy thoughts"
"theyre just shadows, no one is there"

i repeat to myself
over and over
i hear something fall

my trembling hand
carelessly knocked something to the floor
creating an eerie echo

as i look down the hallway
there is a door
slightly ajar

i causiously step towards it
it creaks open
my heart is in my throat

oh why do they stalk me
these constant evil shadows
playing upon these walls

dancing before my eyes
looming over me
fear cries in my eyes

"it's just the shadows"
the movement of light is playing tricks on you"
i wish that was true

the shadows cave in upon me
holding a knife
where it tears out my heart

my assumption is clear

shadows suck! when i'm outside alone in the dark, i get terrified and see things everywhere. good write.
