As the light of the morning
Washes over me
I close my eyes
Sometimes I still see
Soft moonlight on your head
Shadows of you in my bed
And still, I can remember
Every last word that you said
Let your tears fall down like rain
Sooner or later they will wash away your pain
I know you love me
But it’s not enough reason to stay
I hope you never understand
The reasons why I have to walk away
If time changes everything
Causes all wounds to heal
Girl I’d rather die tomorrow
Than change the way I feel
Without you by my side
I know that I’ll survive
As long as I still feel this pain
I’ll know that I’m alive
So now my tears fall down like rain
But I doubt they’re ever gonna wash away this pain
You knew I loved you
But it wasn’t enough reason to stay
Someday I hope to understand
The reasons why you had to walk away
I really tried to love her
Lord knows I tried to care
But you can’t go on pretending
When the feeling’s just not there
I’d hold her in my arms
As I’d lay awake at night
Thinking about you, and dreaming of the times
I only had to touch you to make everything all right
So now her tears fall down like rain
I hope in time that they can wash away her pain
I know she loves me
But it’s not enough reason to stay
I think I finally understand

I felt it was a great poem! I'm no authority, but it was really heartfelt and emotional. Your poetry is so much more complex with the way you vary the rhyme scheme and number of lines in a stanza.

I am, unfortuately, at the school library, and must leave soon, but I HAD to comment on this one! You have no idea how much I 'understand' how you feel in this... I went through it myself. Beautiful rhyming, mon ami! You are so talented!! Beguilling words, excellet flow... I was set in a time where happiness inhabited your life, and a girl very special to you was resting in your arms, relishing, in what she called love, but what was actually feigned... Although you hated to admit to yourself, you felt it so strongly... And she left, leaving you in tears "that would hopefully wash away your pain"... You know she loved you and you loved her, but it wasn't that love that you want to spend the rest of your lives together, but it's a love of a beautiful friendship. Keep it. Cherish it. Never let it go, because when you do, you seem to have nothing else BUT her, the only real friend you have to turn to when in need... Your pain and her pain will soon leave you, ONLY if you let it leave you. To keep pain in your heart, and reminiscing about the past, won't help you, believe me, I KNOW! lol... wow, Scotty ... I think I remember talking to you about this one ...
[you made me cry, remember? lol]
sooooooooo relatable .. I let go of a lot of haboured emotion, [and not very good ones]
because of this write. Thank you so much for that. It's amazing how you can help a friend
open their eyes to so much clarity and understanding through just a simple poem. That
is what separates great from greatness. My ex should thank you too! *winks*
