Insular Nations

Dubious works behind the fingered
sieve, the hands that hide,
in the isolate depths
where insular nations lie,
peopled of those peevish scions
of desire, who would have
their hunger, when
satiety, long denied, is come--
in time-lost machination, these
conjure their cartography,
and, from center,
cast this island universe--
one universe, amid the many,
though nations be confined
to desert isles, where
natives raze the hands that bind.

I don't pretend to understand this poem, but I agree that isolation is a harmful thing. Individually as well as nationally; although I've never thought of it on a national level before. I tend to isolate myself so I think of it that way because I know it is harmful to me as an individual. If I understood the poem, I would vote, however, since I don't, I can't...wish I were smarter. Darn. |

a trochal dilemma from these concave mirrors,
that day by day mould with grey, til at last we
settle for our own murders', a easy refraction
then the one beyond the grey.
a wonderful poem a deliverance of truth through as children, we are heedless to recoup...Thank you for a marvellous read.

I suppose we could only hope to become an isle, who's natives could reclaim their kitchen ware, for the benefit of us all. |
