Heat Wave

Looking for relief,
I sat on the fire
escape, sweating out
the eighty five plus
degrees of the muggy,
July night.
I watched the gibbous
moon rise, it hung above
the horizon, a big,
juicy slice of orange
over the skyline.
I wanted to reach out,
bite into it and quench
my thirst.

This one comes with a serious visual... even without the detail... and says a lot with few words. It's striking, really.
By the way.... I think a lot of us want to do that. Few, though, know it's possible and fewer still, ever do.
Maybe it's just the inclusion of "I"... but this one... tugs at me.
