Winged Creature's Ball

Contributed by Nazmythian on Tuesday, 24th August 2004 @ 01:50:00 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Every year around mid-fall
Is held a special winged creatures ball
They come from North, South, West and East
All manner and form of wing'ed beast
'Tis held atop a high plateau
Few without wings can seldom go
But I was there, I must attest
As Mother Dragon's honored guest
Wyverns, Griffons, and Harpies came
Some creatures that I could not name
An entourage of Fairies too
Their Queen was dressed in Royal Blue
But the one arrival noticed most ...
A baby Roc that flew in from the coast
Oh fly he could, but land could not
He chose the widest open spot
Then let me say that Roc did roll
Almost right off that high plateau
It was a most unnerving sight
Wings everywhere spread out in fright
Quick thinking Pixies threw down moss
That he did gather and thus did stop
Then Mother Dragon asked me to sing
And as I did, two flights took wing
Snow and Thunder birds did rise
In unison they took to the skies
Their precise movements did amaze
Drew each and every single gaze
At times it seemed they would collide
But some would rise and some would dive
When their aerial display was through
The sprint and relay races flew
I sang until my voice was numb
Accompanied by birds that hummed
( I guess they didn't know the words )
Their tiny voices hardly heard
A Phoenix did provide some light
And on it went into the night
While dragon fire kept us warm
We stayed and played until the morn
Then once the sun did rise again
I bid farewell to my new friends
The Hippogryph with one good ear
Invited me again next year

Wow! Where do you come up with all that magic, fantasy, and creativity. I can't see myself being able to do that. I seem to need to always relate my poems to real things and situations.

Impressive

I don't know how I came to miss this gem of a poem. I had a bad day perhaps. Wonderful wording and a most exquisit poem. A big hug for your Daughter Scott from bernard.
