It's Nights Like These

Contributed by Orlando on Sunday, 22nd August 2004 @ 09:56:51 PM in AEST
Topic: insomniac

It's Nights Like these
that I lie awake
plagued by the words
that did not take.
I find absolution in Webster
I'm immediately inspired
I flee to my computer
to ensure my thoughts are transpired
I did it!
I done it!
My block had been beat!
I had slain the demon
I would soon again meet.
For now he could not lock my words
inside The Cerebral Cage.
I had slain the keeper.
I had opened the gate.
I was flooding the page.

I sit back,
relax,
pour myself a drink.
I no longer feel
the pressing urge to think.
I was once again writing,
my heart rate returned.
The life of my prose
felt warmed
but not burned.

The dawn is approaching.
I'll finish stating my case.
I'll hit enter on the keyboard
and wait to take my place.
To transcend with The Greats;
Keats, Chaucer
Hughes, Poe.
I know I will see Them
as long as my words continue to flow.

But the night carries on
and the moon rose a bit higher.
I'll put down my Monte Blanc
and lay down to retire.
Before my head hit the pillow.
Before my feet left the floor
Last thing I thought was;
It's Nights Like These...

I couldn't ask for anything more.

Welcome to YPDC, Orlando!!!!

Thanks for this! I do absolutely concur! To write... is to feel, to think, to live, it seems to me. A most necessary endeavor - without it I'd be lost.

Knowing the dreams must have been a bit sweeter that night,
SNM

This was wonderful...I love writing on real paper. I keep a notepad beside the bed, beside the tub.. in the car, never know when the inspiration will hit. Great!!!
