Childhood Remedies

Contributed by ShadowDaughter on Sunday, 22nd August 2004 @ 12:34:45 PM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

there are no words to make it all better
and there are some pains
that just can't be kissed away
and sleep won't always bring soft dreams
or brighter 'nother days

"it'll be okay"s ring empty, now
you're no longer the child who believes it
and bright cartooned bandaids
that used to bring smiles to your tearstained face
don't fit so well on souls
and no lullaby sung will be sweet enough
to chase away the demons haunting you by night
and mornings are only fresh reminders
of what isn’t feeling right

for childhood remedies fail as years go by

and these days, it's not as easy
a smile comes less cheaply
your laugh’s a bit more dear

you’ve lost that preschool innocence
and it’s been a long time
since you’ve gone somewhere
holding hands
with a friend to feel safe

but friend, know this:
when there aren’t the words
when none can ease the pain
when the bandaids are gone
and no sooth-song remains

I’ll be there anyway
holding your hand
and though childhood remedies are gone
and all that's left is tight-clasped hands
and not everything will turn out alright,
I swear on every star you used to wish on--

you'll not be alone tonight.

Awwww, Nora - thanks you's are unnecessary, really, among friends. And honestly, I offered so little here - it's not even worth mentioning. It occured to me after my last PM, that the only reason I could offer any input is... because I'm sitting here with a Scooby Doo bandaid on my heart. It doesn't help... but I still don't want to take it off. YOU know exactly what I mean by that. And I knew exactly what you intended when I read that line.

*sigh* Maybe the remedies of yesteryears don't help anymore... but... hug bearing friends most certainly do. Nora, hon - thanks for this - and - for everything...

Thinking your soul has always been too big for a little cartoon bandaid but knowing what you mean,
SNM

Nora, you are such a dear and loving soul. Thank you for the kindness and love you give so freely to others. You don't know what your words have just released in my mind. I think I see the sun!

Love,
Rita

That is so sweet... omg, I love this part --

and mornings are only fresh reminders
of what isn’t feeling right

That just sounded awesome to me! And the end is absolutely beautiful. You did an amazing job on this, it's just... so sweet..
