Little girls on Easter Sunday
Hair ribbons woven through braids
Toesies stuffed in uncomfortable shoes
Picture perfect for those they never knew
At Christmas time the scene is replayed
Their dresses in red and green that day
Smiling at everyone that came through the door
Saying thank you always, but little more
Norman Rockwell visions couldn’t be met
The little girls so frequently wept
It seems picture perfect was just for you
Because no one else was really fooled
For little girls really want nothing more
Then to sit and play with new toys on the floor
Wishing they could stay in pajamas all day
And hear the words you wouldn’t say
Little girls and holidays
It’s the same as every other day
More obvious, maybe, with ribbons and such
But mostly the same; so little, so much.

Awww, this is so sweet, i miss being a little girl, everything seemed like a drama but it never really was...
And i always loved to play dress up. lol. So much that i cried when my nurses costume didn't fit anymore. lol.
But i only ever wanted to do it when I wanted to. I hated getting dressed up for occasions.
Cute poem SNM.
Great write,

Ahhh mon cherie but playing dress up is what growing up is all about, we dress ourselves up in many ways not just in clothes for occasions that we care for naught but also later in polite social greetings and fake smiles that we mean not. We say 'hello' and 'how are you' only to pass up the time and awkward momenst for in truth we care for nothing but our own comfort. In truth these 'pretend' moments are good for they keep social order but in other cases ...yes.. I think you are right we all too often pretend to be someone ..or something that we are not... why do we need makeup or depderant if not...heh hehe why disguise our face and odors that we got? You might say that you do not like to 'play dress up' but don't you do it every time you go out of your doors?????
Anyway... cute and quite a thought provoking write! |

This is a really good write. I have similar memories of that from North Carolina and New York City the most important thing as i got older was to be with the family. |

I have to admit, I always liked being me. I was happier in jeans and boots on the back of my horse running wild and free. I can't remember ever wanting to be anyone else. I am sure I had heros as a child but I always put me in their life. I hated frilly and bows and having to be a "little lady". My mother hated that I hated it!!! LOL

oh my....
I take it that it wasn't always such a happy childhood. I think there is a lot here you are NOT saying.
Great depth here, much underlying the words on the surface which follows the theme of the write itself.
Cleverly done, leaves me feeling troubled and sad. |

This is, of course, absolutely beautiful, creative, amazingly written, poignant, original, powerful --I could go on all day like this, I swear-- but then I expected that, the author being you :). Yours is the truest talent . . .
As for the content? I'm agreed with Jecks . . . this is just so sad, and so familiar in a sense.
"It seems picture perfect was just for you
Because no one else was really fooled"
That part really hit me . . . picture perfect can be so hard. I have to envy those who are fooled by the dress-up clothes and (forgive me if I'm assuming something incorrect) dress-up smiles. They hurt to produce, as well . . .
Fantastic write ^^.

Just as there is a little boys inside each man (which we never admit to) women are just more honest to express it. Love it .

I always loved the dressing up part. Guess that makes me weird. A nicely layered piece. I just love traditions, but I understand the reality behind the glossy photos. Reminds me a bit of my Whitewashed.

Oh my god, you just gave me goosebumps!!!! What a sad flashback to our childhood, but oh so true!
I am glad that you are able to write such beautiful things about something so difficult. I just try to block it all out..... |

Seems as though you missed all those I Love You's that most children get. It's well written with 'read between the lines' thoughts. glad I took the time to read some of your poetry

This provoked thoughts of my daughter; who has never been big on getting dressed up.
Thank you....thank you ever so much. :-)
