come, lover, let us love
as when first we loved,
with excitement,
commitment and
desire.
no longer, perhaps, with youthful ardor
but with the fire of long loving and
passion the get of passions past.
touch me
feel me
fear not to touch this aging body
that yearns for your touch
no less today
than when first we met
busy are we
with mundane things
important in
themselves
but threatening
to come between us.
too long have we drifted,
content, complacent
in our habitual commitment.
too long have we allowed
our mudane bickering
to assume the role
of real words between us.
come, lover,
and let us love ...
