Guilt Walks

Contributed by Avarice_Riot on Saturday, 21st August 2004 @ 12:53:19 AM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

Guilt walks a lonesome spiral of a road
of which the end seems to be nowhere in sight.
Time and time again, the old ghosts
you thought you had vanquished out of mind
Return to spite you to your death.
Oh, it feels your demise would bring more
peace than having to bear on your neck
The constant crushing breathing of a
betrayal impaled for good.
You try so hard to ask yourself:
Will it ever fade away?

When unseen hands silently cast back your sins at you
And air drips in steady streams of familiar
faces that never cease to haunt you
When all you seem to live in is a glasshouse of regret
And the outside is a place we took too long to reach
When the stars piloting the skies seem too
bright for your carmine-covered eyes
When bitter laughs devour your eyes like
venom steam wafting into an infant's nose
And blind your senses into loveless liquid puddles
When the reflecting pools you thought you could deceive
Deny you the illusions you feed on to stay sane

That's when the truth melts into you;
That's when the mask dissolves before your eyes;
That's when the bitter truth resounds:

It never, never fades away.

For guilt

always

walks.

Stellar images, resounding message and serpentine language weave the most effective mood. I wish I could say it wasn't true, but guilt burrows deep and flowers regularly.
