Day throws on her cape and her form of night
Birdsong becomes the whistle of wind
Out there in the gloom, footsteps have no sound
Crouching forms with diamond eyes slice through the shadows
I feel the dark presence my eyes cannot discern
Shapes are gathering, closing in around me
Demons stop to sniff the chilled night scene
Haunting by menacing anonymity
The first wail hangs ghostly in the air
A sickening call to summon the children of hell
Another replies far off in the distance
Still nothing moves in the inky black
One more demon awakes to join the fray
Cries with the scream of a tortured soul
A chorus of monsters lurk outside my window
I cover my ears to sleep out eerie melody
Light of day once more cascades through the window
Wakened to the calm of morning, still safe in my room
In the corner of the garden, basking in the sun
One lies sleeping, no longer a demon, once more a simple cat

While I thought this was really good and loved the eerie mood of this poem I think it was partially ruined since you told us the twist in your comments. Still a really good poem though don't get me wrong. I think cats are evil though since my cat killed a poor defenseless bird yesterday that my mom was trying to feed since it had fallen out of its nest or something.

*blinks* Well...I'll certainly never look at cats the same way again. I loved this poem though, it sent chills down my spine. Well done, this was a great write.
