Ethereal Sunshine

Contributed by Ethereal_Engine on Thursday, 19th August 2004 @ 07:54:09 AM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

I walk in arbitrary direction, my eyes covered with cloth tied tightly around my head. I can see nothing through the blindfold and cannot feel my surroundings for my hands are bound behind my back with thick rope. I see my path through my ethereal spirit guiding me to what ever destination that I seek. My only insight into the outside world is the terrain beneath my feet for I wear no shoes. I can hear sound but only that which I desire to hear. I hear the chaotic changes in song and words that people speak as I pass them by. My physical body cannot be harmed for without sight from my physical eyes I am immortal. I exist in purely spiritual form, my body only there for others to know that I am real. It also serves as transportation and connects me to the prime material plain. I leave a trail of footsteps behind me, however so faint and deep like phosphorescence glowing after exposure to light. I am not always alone; at times some chose to walk alongside me guiding me in different directions and sometimes it is me that walks alongside them. Although I am blind to my physical reality I can see the realm beyond, the ethereal plain seen with ethereal eyes shining with ethereal light. This realm that bears more significance than what can be seen before our physical eyes. It is not seen in exact clarity for all colors are blurred together and are always changing. They are colors beyond spectrum which shine with light of their own which changes as rapidly as the colors them-selves, much like fog but with infinite complexity. As the fog shifts so does the sun. It can move in strange ways following no ordered path for there are no planets here, no Earth beneath your feet, for you have no feet at all. You have no body, you exist as thought only. The body you inhabit being a manifestation of what you should look like. In this other realm you are free beyond any freedom attainable in prime reality. You can go anywhere, be anything, see all that can be seen, no longer tied down by solid form.

If I were to see the world outside on the otherside of my blindfold I would see something grand yet sad. A magnificent white city that fell from the sky. It was the first of many cities that are being built to restore our Earth. Great platforms hovering in the clouds harnessing the power of the sun which gather in generators out in space. Beneath the cities artificial suns of different colored light replace the yellow star now blocked out by the numerous structures. Many cities hover in all their glory being successful and staying a float. Others suffered terrible disaster either because of technological flaws or criminal intervention. The one before me fell a hundred years before I was born. It is slowly being raised from its grave, the materials being used to build a new city perhaps having more success the its predecessor. When it fell not all its residents died, many of them stayed in the broken mess unable to leave to a safer residence. It's become a slum for outcast citizens who cannot afford to live in the clouds who are now being driven from their homes and out into the wilderness.
