The Nightmare

Contributed by jesika on Thursday, 19th August 2004 @ 02:46:40 AM in AEST
Topic: fictional

A tourtured, broken heart
A mauled and broken soul
My presence and my sanity
Is what everyone stole
With everything I've seen
And everything I've done
I know that my battles
Are much less than won
I fall to the ground
Wondering if I should rise
Or let myself lie here
To wait for me to die
A single, silent tear
Comes running down my face
I can't move though I want to
I feel so out of place
So as I lay here and wonder
What is happening
A light begins to flood the room
And someone begins to sing
So I start to quietly
Say an almost silent prayer
I start to feel uneasy
I know that you're there
I begin to scream at you
For you to go away
And as I lay there screaming motionless
I continue to pray
I see you getting closer
Slipping silently across the floor
I watch you move right past me
And slide right out the door
I stay still and silent
Cold, alone and scared
I open my eyes to find that I
Have awoken from my nightmare.

Very, very nice...simple words but very easy to relate to. I like the twist at the ending too - most poems relating to nightmares that I've read stay within the nightmare and don't go beyond that to the waking up part. I enjoyed this unique take a lot, keep on writing!
