Unable to Prepare

I never could have guessed
how true love would feel,
the rush to have him,
with his arms wrapped around me,
and the great pain of loss
when he's not near.
The feeling of his bare skin,
pressing against mine,
that he loves me enough
to be so very vulnerable
and to leave his heart in my hands.
This is unlike anything,
I could have prepared for,
the trust we place on each other,
the sacrifices,
the tears,
how we've matured
our willingness to remain,
just the two of us,
until the end of time.
Plans for the future,
are made with joking tones,
but deep inside
there is a longing,
fow them to come true.
The fact of just having him,
someone like no other,
a person to whom,
I'd leave my life in his hands.
No one could have told me,
how wonderful this would feel.
