HURRICANE CHARLEY

Topic: Lifepoems

"HURRICANE CHARLEY

Tremendously lethal was Charley Hurricane
Hit Florida with a vengeance, devastating terrain.
A young lady of 15, tells her story about being there.
She tells of the horrible nightmare!

This is her story:

"I just returned from Florida last night.
I was in Clermont for about a wekk.
I was there during Hurricane Charley-- horrible fright!
No one I knew was killed or hurt, but I was sorry
for those who were, It was very bleak!

Going outside the next morning, seeing everything destroyed
Big trees torn from the ground, turned upside down,
high winds nothing avoid.....
Cars, houses, trailers dented and smashed
Billboards, signs, lying in the middle of the road crashed!

Look at the size of the hailstones!!!

Then I noticed something that appeared very weird!
Around the swmming pools screen-like partitions,
to keep bugs out, not even sheared!
Very flimsy, look like they could fall down in an instant.....
and yet they were all left standing!
Huges things like trees, cars, and houses, were destroyed,
and yet these delicate screens weren't even bulging?

Later I asked my father, and he explained the air
through them could pass.
That's when I realized this could also be applied
to real life mass......
If people won't budge at all (Like cars and trees)
they'll be blown away!
But if people would follow the example of the pool-screens.....
They too could survivie the "Hurricanes" of life each day!

Instead of always having it your way........
When the winds in your life blow heavily and stay!
Blend with the winds, not being rigid!
Relax, and go with the flow of your life..........n'er be halted!

Well, here I sit in Tampa Bay Florida where almost 2 million people were asked to evacuate their homes for Hurricane Charley! It didn't end up hitting near us, but I've seen ALOT of the pictures on the news. Hurricanes can destroy so much, so I'm glad that you could create your poetry and get out a good message from a story you heard.

Good job.

Through the eyes of a child...it is always said that we are all wise once when we are children... then we grew up and forgot all the wisdom. I guess there is a truth to that after all in the view of this remarkable young lady you have qouted herein. Hurricanes are terrible things indeed... I stayed for a while in Miami and had learned to fear and perhaps respect the weather reports and hurricane. Luckily I was never in any hurricane adventure except perhaps in the frenzy of Univ. of Miami's Hurricane sports teams. Anyway another thoughtful write from the Wise Lady of YPDC!

"while compromise is good in most things...there are situations when intactability needs to be enforced...for sometimes right and wrong...good and bad... all these needs to be defined..."~ Words from the Codex of Lan.

Young lady learned a valuable lesson from all the devastation. Hopefully some good will come of all this. I have been through 2 hurricanes and they are nothing to sneer at. God bless and care for all the people whose lives have been disrupted and destroyed by this tragedy.

Thank you for this lesson passed on to all of us!
I'm inclined to say that an open mind is also like your screen.
Let the winds of life blow through an open mind and you can watch and enjoy life go by
But when the winds of life try to pass through a closed mind...it can leave a path of destruction.
...just a thought...:)

You opught to be highly commended and praised for writing this.
It is very unfortunate that one cannot find postings that take issue with the devastating disaster that has befallen so many good and innocent people.
Bless you Connie for doing just that.
I speak for he many who may not read your posting, but still be proud that somebody wrote about it.
and on their behalf TANK YOU Connie.
Hugs and Love
Elizabeth

This hurriacane was very devastating. Here in Canada, we had a piece of it as well. I hope everything goes well for her and she is able to get her life back on track. *S* Cynthia
