Saving Silhouettes

Saving Silhouettes

As the faded scent of apple cinnamon drifts slowly passed her nose, she turns her attention towards the off-white double doors that lead to a proficiently designed screened-in porch. Beyond this porch and out where there is but only an insinuation of innocence, is a world full of fake flowers and strawberry lies. But she's safe within her barriers for now.

Thoughts interrupted, her ears pick up the muffled sounds of people conversing, air conditioner clankings, and cars heading towards their destinations. Where is her destination? Surely it can't be passed the old, creaky wooden fence, on the trail that leads to the neighborhood's creek, or even in the back of some stranger's yard where an aged shaggy dog sleeps.

Struggling to find the answers through a murky sense of misguided information, she traps herself within a world unbeknownst to her. Looking back, that forgotten world must have been rung out with emotions and sunsets, and the shadows are merely but a memory of what has been, casting their spell upon her mind.

Will she ever be able to paint over the memoirs of her former self with broken guitar strings and cheap lip gloss that seduce the eyes that stare? Or will painting over not be enough to fully satisfy the soul's wounds? Just like the sugar on butterfly wings, she's losing herself within the pain, letting it devour every morsel of sanity she's accumulated on rainy days.

Perhaps, alone, she can't escape this darkness which intensifies at such a grotesque velocity, that it destroys everything in it's path. Cobalt blues desperately search for a hand that will salvage any dignity she has left, and might even rescue her before it's too late. But...

I can't seem to reach that far inside myself to help her.
