rocks in my pockets

I gathered these one at a time.
A stone for each unfaithful act,
a pebble for each time I turned away.
Struggling just to keep my head above water
with seven pounds of sin in my pockets
pulling me deeper, taking me under.
I felt light as air when we began.
Pockets full of love and kisses
made me feel like I could walk on water.
Stretching out my arms wide, basking,
for all the world to see my happiness.
All the world is watching now.
I want to strip it off, shed it all,
bare myself to you.
Let these stones drift to the bottom,
leap out of the depths I have sunk to.
Gasping, praying you won’t let me drown.
Fill my pockets with love and kisses
Once again. Forgive me.

I love the archive!
Found this almost two years since you posted it, and I think it's great.
Beautiful analogy, well worked and poignantly written.
Great job. |
