I ask her "What's the mater ?"
And she says "There's nothing wrong"
But she says it in that voice
And her face is rather drawn
I ask her "What's the mater ?"
She says "Nothing, leave me be !"
Now I know, without a doubt
That the matter must be me
Can't recall a thing I've done
Or somehow forgot to do
So I muster up my courage
And say "Hmmph, it must be you."
Well the first blow landed on my arm
The second and third did not
I think what finally did me in
Was the stupid coffee pot
Now I'm laying on a gurney
Wonderin' when I'll get my meds
Sixteen stitches later
I'm still not certain what I did
