Topic: LostLove

All I wanted was to think that maybe I wasn’t chasing
Another pipe dream that had my foolish mind racing
All I wanted was to know that what I felt was not one-sided
That this love I had for you would not become two lives divided
All I knew was how my heart would pound when I would hear you speak
How the sight of you would render me incompetent and weak
How the energy that flowed between us seemed so very real
Still never truly knowing how you did or did not feel
You would come with perfect timing, unexpectedly appear
Like you felt my anguished longing for you only to be here
And the pleasant conversation always seemed so forced and trite
But I’d hang on your every word and bask in it all night
And as you opened up to me I felt the rising bond
Two like-minded individuals seeking common ground
I dared to go beyond what others hadn’t seen before
And delve into the depths of a mind so hidden to the core

A simple touch of your hand, a shy smile graced your face
And in that instant, I understood what had become our place
A forbidden connection, one we never could reveal
The silent longing for each other, the fascination we concealed
And I’d kiss the sky at night and ask that God might keep you near
Thank him for bringing you to me, the one I held so dear
Wishing nothing more than to pour out my heart and soul
To make you mine at last, despite the forces in control
We spent many a moment in that familiar awkward way
Our hands nervously fidgeting while we thought of what to say
Both wishing we’d be given that precious time alone
To speak without boundaries, be what they could not have known
But the opportunities would pass as quickly as they came
And neither would do more than walk out the door in shame
For we both knew what we both wanted, though it never seemed
We could turn it into more than just some far off, crazy dream

And now time screams in my ear, our days are fading fast
Your whole life stands before you and I’ve nothing but the past
And yet we know together we could live in constant bliss
Still all these rampant feelings have come to no more than this.
