in this field of forgiven flowers
i lay me down to sleep
and once i'm under
there i slumber
never quite so deep
there we fell to the floor
of a hall i'll not see
i was blind to the scene
'cept a glimpse of a queen
throned on top of me
it was fleeting as flies
on a warm summer day
and there we sat
things strewn from my hat
though you still tried to run away
i stopped up the hymn that arose in my throat
and i pulled you into me
melted like that
we were june-bugs again
and forever we would be
but i awoke to my meadows
and they wiped my mind clean
so i'm content to stand
on the edge of the land
but, oh! if you just could've seen
[and i've already forgotten what tasted so true]
