Grandmother Clock

“Grandmother Clock”

Appearing stately against the wall,
Varnished wood it stood so tall.
Standing for years echoing time,
With each hour a mellow chime.

My little girl at seven years old,
Amazed by the beauty the pendulum holds.
The pretty flowers placed on each side,
And the brilliant white wall that stood behind.

This thing was more then a reflection of time,
With golden numbers and hands that shine.
Admiring all that glittered and gleamed,
Jewelry to her that was fit for a queen.

She stood there a moment and then she sighed,
Looked and me with the prettiest smile.
She said to me, as this thing ticked tocked,
“Are you sure this is not a Grandmother clock?”

I love the literal mind of a child. They are such purists and so honest. Thanks for sharing this.

Adorable... I have a 7 year old daughter myself - and, she's let a few zingers fly over the years. My favorite? The recent comment that she made when we turned onto our road to find that the tar had been removed as they intended to re-pave the street. I said something like "Oh my goodness, honey - we live on a dirt road!" and she replied "Wow! It's like we're back in 1985 or something!". That happened to be the year I graduated high school! I felt as old as... well... dirt! lol! We later revised it to 1905 for mommy's sanity!!!! lol!

Well crafted... and very sweet! Nice job!

Oh yes. I cringe at the thought of my " wise " words my mother could impart to this site. I have been blessed with two girls myself and they inspire my writing in more ways than one. This is sooooo cute. Good write, the thinking that went into it was time well spent.
