VEDAUWOO

Contributed by lovingcritters on Monday, 9th August 2004 @ 10:54:13 PM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

A dropped leaf each season, a whole lifetime.....
Petals from history's flower--eolith's time.
Mammoth lava deposits for their inner hearts.
Solid rock formations unmoved n'er thwarts!

An immense boulder reaching droplets end.
Tribes of Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Sioux, Shoshone, and Ute attend!
Cathedral of Sacred sacraments, through nature's living facets.
Thought to be alive, thunder, wind, sun, and moon secrets!

Stoic faces of the past, let the rocks cry out at last!
May have been a site for "Spiritual Quests" past.
Spiritualistic rituals of coming manhood, by young braves
of those tribes.
Vedauwoo's name itself is Arapahoe for "Earthborn" vibes.

Evidences found would seem to indicate a hunting ground.
Marvelous area for those seeking arrowheads abound.
Interesting history for those who love to learn.....
Books have been written about this area's sojourn.

Vedauwoo is also famous for rock climbing.
Climbers come from all over the world, challenges, for the asking!
I can remember coming here as a small child for picnicking.
Surrounded by huge boulders, scenery mysterious, and enchanting!

it means "Earth Born"..I like the metaphoric phrase "petals from history's flower"..I like ther way how you traced its past..may be that was a ground of spiritualistic rituals..but any way that is place of challenge for rock climbers..The first photo was breath taking..
Love of nature as well as love on your native land shines here in your poem..:-) venkat

I left central Washington to school in Laramie in 1990. I loved the area so much, I stayed for 3 years. Thank you so much for taking me back !!! Many a weekend was spent on those rocks. It was just as beautiful as your words.
Thanks again.

Naz ~
