I sit outside a room of people
Feeling alone and restless
I walked in a few times
But noone bothered to make room
And so I stand an outcast
Made only by my contempt
For the one who broke the mold
And still she sits among them
The only way to stand her
Is to put on a fake smile
To pretend I am happy and content
Or to not speak at all
So I choose not to speak
Because I refuse to be like her
And now I am pushed aside
Because I am not what I used to be

Reading your poem takes me back to my teenage years where, I, too, was made an outcast by one single girl--who, of course, was Ms. Popularity. In retrospect, I'm the stronger/wiser/happier/better for it, and I can only hope you will be, too. Your resentment will soon turn to pity, when you discover her smiles are just as forced as yours. All the best to you, and keep up the great writing! |
