STAYING SANE

Contributed by lovingcritters on Saturday, 7th August 2004 @ 04:40:10 PM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

This picture depicts pleasure and pain....like being homeless
and trying to stay sane!

"STAY SANE"

Stay sane, endure the pain.
Into each life falls some rain!
Each night I can't sleep, but fret.
I think of all those without a bed, nor asset!

Through no fault of my own,
I was homeless for over a year.
How do you stay in the "Sanity Zone?"
By making comparisons without fear!

In the mountains we nearly succumbed,
Snowed in, left us hungry for 15 days
I would think of all the children numbed.
Those that were hungry as me Always!

We lived in our little station wagon,
Montie, myself, and our six dogs nearly frozen.
I thought of those in concentration camps
Little or no bedding, they were the "True Champs!

I accepted, or soon adapted to my fate.
Resigned, I changed what I could, did not berate.
Saved my energy for surviving each day.
Knowing there would be an end, maybe today?

Hope carried us through, never questioning.
Enduring, with pain of heart, count each blessing.
It could be worse, you could be without a car!
Tiny things mean so much, a thankful memoir.

Hindsight blurs vision, knowing all is well now,
Marvelous lessons we learned, strength, courage allow.
Without money, without food, a pillow for our head.
We survived, we had faith, gave Him the lead.

N'er fear for the future, we learned how to be strong.
No matter what befalls us now, our whole life long.
If we just don't give up hope, and carry on.....
There will be a daybreak--straight ahead a dawn!

"Courage, it would seem, is nothing less
than the power to overcome danger,
misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing
to affirm inwardly that life with all it's sorrows
is good; that everything is meaningful even
if in a sense beyond our understanding;
and that there is always a tomorrow."
~Dorothy Thompson~

*Courageous Smiles!"
