Tarnished Heart

Tarnished Heart

I'm picking up the pieces
Even though there is no reason
The relationship has ended
No more reason to stay here
We couldn't trancend
What brought us here

The pieces left behind
Are what made us blind
The mistakes over time
A future left to find

Another path taken
Because of mistakes
There is no other way
But going forward
There's no going back
To before now

I'm dead within
But I'm still living
To not make the mistake again
I've learned this time
Heart's aren't to be guarded
They only wither and tarnish
To feel the compassion
Is worth the pieces

It could never have been
If I wouldn't have given in
And I'd rather die within
Than never feel it again
The shattered pieces
Are all I have left
From feeling

Sad but beautiful. I like this line -

We couldn't trancend
What brought us here

I just like the word transcend for some reason, so I found that part really lovely.

I love how it's so sad, but not despairing. Much like that saying, it's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. I fully believe that, and you got that message across in this poem. Great job! I really enjoyed reading it. :)

Emotionally heartbreaking, since we have all been at that same point somewhere in our lives. I know the anguish all to well.
Nice write!
Angel always...joni
