I was at my first cricket match on that wonderful day,
In the semi-covered Singer stands did we stay,
The stadium was alien to me; ‘twas power-packed and intense,
There I was; a spectator sitting with my friends
Michael Kasprowicz* was bowling, he looked big & tall,
I was praying to God that the Sri Lankan wickets wouldn’t fall,
Jason Gillespie followed & he was as good as the first,
Then play was halted whilst the players quenched their thirst
Shane Warne appeals; whew! That was a close shave,
The Sri Lankan supporters begin to cheer and rave,
Play continues whilst the batsmen labour on,
Alas! The final wicket falls! Now all thoughts of winning are gone...

Hey...a cricket fan!!! I've always wanted to write a poem about cricket..just never got around to it... You did a great job at this.... Too bad about the results.... maybe next time...
(P/S..I know how you feel...I am from the West Indies) lmao.... so you heard about their tour in England, you'll know what I mean.....
Thanks for sharing this...I enjoyed it more than I did our last two matches....*smile*

Nice poem, mate. Good to see some variety about here. And don't worry, next time Murali will blow the Aussies away! |
