No longer there

I wonder why I try,
I wonder why I care.
Why my heart still hungers
for a love no longer there.
I know the wish is foolish.
The dreams are naught but air.
But I can not shake these longings
for a love no longer there.
Each morning I wake up hopeful.
My soul once again lay bare.
Only to be cut to ribbons
by a love no longer there.
I try to gather the pieces,
and look to who knows where.
To find someone to fulfill
a love no longer there.
Instead I find but sorrow.
Out of reach this thing so rare.
For never can I replace
a love no longer there

A love no longer there.....how sad this verse is....masterfully penned emotions that come with a broken heart. Awesome verse.

I read that and realized, as I revisited old wounds, they never do truly heal. You just become so accustomed to the way that they feel, that you're able to move on. Just like " An old football injury " or something. They STILL hurt. Very nice poem, thank you. |

Stay strong and know everything shall pass,
even the hurt and lost of a love one...
God Bless! |

Well.... you had me with the author's note at the top of this piece! (smiles)
This is wonderful... heartbreakingly so. The repetition of the fourth line works very, very well here (and it is, repetition, hard to do well, I think). I enjoyed this very much.. though that moment of hard reality? that... I could do without.
Keep writing,

I hear it's better to have love and lost than to never have loved at all. your well depicted poem of this has left me to question for I could feel your pain-Morgues |
