A Splinter
I’ve spent a long time, yes I know,
on figuring out just what to do
about this feeling that I carry
each and every single day;
it’s there inside me as I walk
and talk and do what must be done
to keep the ship afloat and moving
and not watch it go astray.
Now, while it’s there it haunts and taunts me
like a splinter neath my skin,
always being a constant worry
never bound to go away,
not unless I find the culprit
and remove it with some skill,
yes, it takes a gentle caring
lest I damage me some way.
Whilst I need not fill your thoughts
I know I will not be your whim
‘till someone else should capture
your desires to share with him;
so search the world to find another,
if that`s what you’re bound to do,
I have now increased the distance
that exists ‘tween me and you.

Unrequited love, how depressing! I like the way you compared it to a splinter! Very cleaver! Have faith, it may happen! Write on!
