Shards of Me

My soul lies in pieces on the floor,
shards of glass and barb wire amidst them,
my mind is torn, it's remnants are ravaged,
piercing blows attack my heart.

I stand over my inner disarray,
starring with cold, black eyes,
my body begins to twitch as I stoop low to cradle
the last string of my innocence
in the palm of my hands.

My insides are vacant of any signs of life,
a crimson tear traces a line down my face
as a reminder of once was within,
it stings my eye and burns my cheek,
but I do not let it move me.

My now savage emotions are tinted with a feeling,
that like all other things,
this too will pass,
but when it leaves, I know,
it will take a part of me with it,
away into the everlasting night.

A shudder passes through me as I bring pen to paper,
music drowning out the rest of the world,
I tilt my head back to look out the window,
as a dove splattered with blood lands on the cil.

I clutch my knees to my chest,
as I sit on the floor,
I've been feeling this way for a long time now,
and I know nothing can help me but time,
for it's no one's fault but mine.
