Moving In Circles

selfstruggles

Dragging my shadow behind me
I continue on, making tiny little circles
My footsteps falling into themselves
Over and over, until I break free
Stepping then in a different place
Still pathetically close to the last
The thought of moving dramatically
Into some distant place, scares me
Trapping me, keeping me close by
In slightly wider, but still tiny, circles
My reflection watches and mocks me
She finds me ridiculous, weak even
She prances about making me a fool
Stopping here and there, doubled
Over with laughter at the sight of me
I hate her but I know she’s right
To call me a fool, to laugh and laugh
I have no secrets from her anymore
And she isn’t shy, she’s the loud voice
That I always hear as I continue circling
I love her for her wisdom, but denounce
Her anyway, unfeeling fool that she is
She's dancing in those ridiculous circles
Losing patience, I turn around to find
Both shadow and reflection following me
Frustrated, annoyed, I move around them
Stepping, casually, outside my tiny circle
To do so; accidentally putting myself
Into a slightly wider circle, I continue
Dragging them along behind me

Wow, SNM, this certainly struck a chord . . . *is still sort of unbalanced after reading it*
Beautiful poem, skillfully written, painfully emotional to the extent that it almost hurts to read, and so personal that I applaud you (again =P) for the courage I'm sure it took to post this poem here.
Off to go reread it again--

You know, eventually every step you take outside the steps will lead you further away and eventually you will be far away from that circle and will be able to continue as far as you want to go. You can do it, you will do, it just takes time. Don't get frustrated with yourself. We all evolve in our own time.

Some very deep thought in this one, SNM...
We all go in circles, occasionally..I know you've taken a giant leap out of the circle, lately, and have started another journey...
You'll always have the times of the little circles, but as long as you see them, you can make another leap to break free....
Excellent piece....Mike |

Wow. A deep and moving piece. Taking with us all of our "things" as we travel through life. Reflective, soul searching, and wonderful. Our lessons learned and baggage carried. Thank you for sharing this wonderful verse. |

Wow. This was fascinating. I mean that. A very full write. One I want to read again to discover the deeper layers of meaning. Quite nice. Understand we'll be meeting in Oct.
Should be fun. I'm thinking of a place called Cafe Chuckles.

Not all of us are brave enough to take a leap, but even one step at a time widens our circle/life.
I'm like that too :)
There's a silly saying that comes to mind yet is dear to my heart...
"Softly, softly, catchee monkey." |

Circulatory lives, do make me think about a mortal coil.
Written with insight, inspired by . . . reflection?
Keep writing, SNM. |

Wow. Emotions I've felt over and over again are so well depicted in this poem. I think most people are afraid to step out of their circles. We're afraid to live, even though that's what we want the most. That was very well expressed here. I've really enjoyed reading your poetry. |
