Secret Memories from my Past

Contributed by Gentledove on Saturday, 31st July 2004 @ 12:21:08 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

The first time I told you of my shameful secret,
I thought you would leave, head for the nearest exit.
Instead, you wrapped your arms in a comforting embrace,
You told me you loved me as you wiped tears from my face.

I told you I was damaged and would be no good,
You looked me in the eyes and said that's a falsehood.
You told me you loved me no matter my past,
It wasn't my fault, I shouldn't feel downcast.

I still have memories that come to mind,
With you by my side they don't become entwined.
Your love for me has me completely enshrined,
Wrapped up tight, never to unbind.

To those of you who may not know, I was molested by my father. Seek someone you TRUST completely with your most precious valuables, your FEELINGS. I still struggle from time to time but I am not completely overwhelmed. I hope this poem will help someone out there who is struggling with feelings of dispare for something that was not their fault.

I applaud you for posting this an including your comment. Obviously, you know how powerful love and support can be since you recieved those gifts from your love. Your relationship is a treasure that neither of you takes for granted... it is, as well, a gift to others as you share yourselves through your writing.

Beautifully done-
SNM

You have such a gentle and compassionate nature. It is heartbreaking that this had to happen to you or to anyone...Sounds like your husband has helped you through a great deal of hurt. Great write.

Gentledove with a heart full of love. I can certainly understand, for I was molested by my own brother, and when I told my father, he said, "I wished you'd never been born!" Good way to shut me up!
You have a wonderful husband, Gentledove, and I know he will always protect you.
Beautiful write, and thank you so much for sharing........it's like someone stepped off your chest!
Give him a big hug for me!!!
love you
