That little blond girl
With deep, brown eyes I see
It was Sylvia, I think, but could have been me
The memories, it seems, come
Interchangeably
A carefree, loving soul
Stuffed with dreams, absent of lies
She’s shouting, at no one, a hope filled cry
Standing alone in a field
Majestic and wise
Not feeling the cold
As snow began to whirl ‘round
Experiencing every single flake as it fell down
In her mind, she’s a queen
Wearing a crown
The field is her kingdom
Though only the snow and her came
She holds her head high, for she alone she reigns
She promises to lead wisely
And never complain
But her lovely dream
Then began to sputter and spout
For the snow got too heavy and blotted it out
And there underneath the white
She found self doubt
At that very moment
She noticed the field was now full
Of uninvited subjects she never wanted to rule
So she begged them to listen, but
They called her a fool
Big, muddy footprints
Trampled across her precious snow
All her dreams were then stifled, unable to grow
And yet, the little queen was still
Wise enough to know
That she couldn’t lead well
As she promised, if she wasn’t being heard
No point complaining, the very idea seemed absurd
So she left, found a new field and
Stayed true to her word

If you've wondered Why Sylvia? the answer is here
Though perhaps its a tad cryptic, maybe unclear
For the snow and the field and that wise little queen
Well, they are not exactly what they would seem
And for those of you that may be wondering still
(Do you remember? Maybe someone will)
My earlier poem - the riddle named Two by Two
This is most definitely a rather significant clue
And poet friends, should you think me insane
Never fear, I'm done here, you needn't remain...
I wanted only, I suppose, to get all this out
- It's just something that I've been thinking about...

And unlike others Sylvia did stay true to her word, as she said she would. Sylvia accepted with grace the problem, moved on until she could control her fate. Sylvia did!
Great write, great catharsis.

This is a great piece, SNM...
I know it's about your affinity with Sylvia Plath...who, unfortunately, I'm totally unfamilliar with...but this can stand by itself as a superb write.
You have me wanting to read her work so that I might figure out the riddle.
An excellent, well crafted, well thought out write...I'm envious of your talent and joyous to be able to read your work....

I've felt this kind of connection or link. I understand. You're right. It's like a riddle or puzzle and you MUST put the pieces together. Bravo for a job well done.

I'm unfamiliar with whom you are speaking of. But, this is a fine tribute to her. *S* Cynthia |

*huge smile*
This is awesome!!!
And now allow me to be a bit cryptic. For some odd reason it generates another huge smile because it brings to mind an awesome conversation I recently had with a wonderful friend.
