A REMARKABLE LESSON…(©Peter Sprenkeler)
A beautiful story of courage and example,
I can’t remember the circumstance of its hearing.
But the memory of it always remains fresh in my mind,
A tale of humility…with a great lesson endearing.
An old crop farmer…down on good fortune,
Several poor seasons…trying to make ends meet.
His family hungry…the present crop all so important,
Desperately toiling to stave off financial defeat.
Yet this season is kind…the magnificent crop blooms,
A bumper harvest will soon be reaped…just a few days away.
Plans made for celebrations…money to pay off the bank,
Been many years since good circumstance had been this way.
Two days before the harvest…the skies brood menacing,
Black ominous clouds build…the winds in strength prevail.
One hour later…the worst fears have come to pass,
A thunderous storm…accompanied by awesome withering hail.
Several hours later…the fury of the storm eases,
The father and his son…walk out to survey the scene.
Total devastation…not a stalk of wheat remains upright,
Dumbstruck…they look…a nightmare…a horrible dream.
Several minutes of intense quietness…they stand together,
The son and father…neither capable of finding a word.
Then something happens…the young man will never forget,
To this day he claims…”the sweetest music he ever heard”.
In powerful voice…amid the hail covered crop,
A song echoes powerfully…across the valley rich and free.
With eyes awash the father sang…“Rock of ages,
Cleft for me…let me hide myself in thee”.
The father sang…took his son’s hand…and quietly walked away,
Yet the young man’s life would never be the same.
The lad grew to be a fine and upright man of God,
The lesson of that day…forever with him to remain.

I think this is beautiful.
Faith in God's goodness in every circumstance- that's what makes all the difference.
Every day and every time, He deserves all of our hearts, and all of our worship.
