If I die one day, which is going to happen,
I don't wanna die for anything or anyone.
Not for the sake of a mad leader
Who is safe and warm while I freeze in my blood.
Not for the sake of our suffering Earth,
Only to fertilize its vile soil with my flesh.
Not for the sake of a sick little kid,
Giving him my kidney, my bones, my inside.
Not for the sake of a stranger,
Handing him the last straw when I need it too.
Not for the sake of a friend,
Only to weigh his mind with grief and guilt.
Not for the sake of my calling,
Only to be buried under the flag of my company.
If I die one day, that I will do only for myself.
Having lived my time, I'll be alone in my coffin.
Out with the world, out with my soul.
I'll be a mere body, but wait and see how they'll cry.

Boy that IS being selfish. I would die for any of these things posted here, and in the end, only my cold lifeless body will lay buried while *I* soar WITH my soul intact.
Nice write though. Vivid imagery to make one think.

I can get how you feel.. selfish or not there are some things not worth dying for. Dying for myself seems a little better. But I guess for the sake of some of my friends (and their sanity) I might die.
Good thoughts in that poem and you did a good job writing it. |
