Dove

Contributed by stubbo87 on Wednesday, 28th July 2004 @ 04:13:15 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Today’s the first
Of the rest of your life
The man you love
Will call you his wife

But are you ready-
To leave this world?
Your dress is on
Your hair is curled

But in your heart-
Aren’t you the same?
What will change-
Besides your name?

Has something changed-
Since I saw you last?
Has your life as you know it
Become your past?

You will walk down the aisle today
And then your Daddy will give you away
But all the while please remember what I say –

You are you
And he is he
So who you are
Will remain to be

Don’t let him run
Your life for you
So you can be happy
Through and through

But it won’t always be
Peaches and cream
And not everything
Is what its may seem

The good won’t come
Without the bad
And there are many
Fights to be had

But through it all
You will have love
And only in knowing that
May you release the dove

I think this is a good poem that should be given to every bride. I like it because it isn't about any particular person, and it is sober, contrary to the "pink fog" that surrounds all brides and bridegrooms.
I'd like to know: did you write it for someone or did it just come to your mind?

This is a very lovely write. Yes, they all go in believing in happily ever after and that is not always true. The honeymoon does eventually end and reality begins.

Words spoken so true! The dove is a beautiful symbol in this poem. My hopes is they release it and true love blooms eternally in their heart!

Interesting.
I think this poem's very sensible.
Yet, it has sweetness too.
NICE READ.
