Sitting By The Water

Contributed by Solnubis on Wednesday, 28th July 2004 @ 09:27:22 AM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

I was sitting by the water today and looking out into the ocean.
I was deep in thought but could not recognize what I was thinking of.
Then I started to list in my head all of the things I have missed out in life.
First, denying myself the privilege of loving and caring for myself.
Realizing how incapable I was in excepting the love from another person,
who was so willing to share this emotion with me.
And admitting to myself the unbelievable fear of opening up to another soul.

I’m realizing though as I see the waves in the waters moving up and down towards me.
That love is a risk, and if we never love we tend to end up bitter and alone.
In love we will always experience the ups and downs of this incredible emotion.
It’s how we deal with them that will determine the outcome of how we will love ourselves and
will have someone love us in return.
When I look out into the water there is so much we can learn by it, in our own life experiences.
But we have to be willing to open up our eyes and see past the hurt and pain.

This has to be the best poem for me to click on yet. I soooo agree with you with EVERY word you wrote. Because it just describes my views of love as well. What I missed out on life, all 3 of those i have done or felt. Thankyou soooo much for writing this, it is wonderful.

Kimberly :)

Amen to that! And how the risks continue even after Love is present and effusive. Funny how often we keep ourselves hurting, lonley, at a distance from others...in order to "keep ourselves save" from getting hurt? Risks can be sscary, and sometimes painful... Heck, often painful... but the payoff (like birth) makes it all worthwhile. I wish you love and fulfillment, Solnubis!

This felt so personal and so full of reflection. It was very moving and wise to read.

You remind me that when water is moving our troubles have moved before we realize it. If you stare into the water, you don't even realize that it has already moved. What you are staring at is NEW water the old has flowed away to be replaced.

If you are alive then there is hope in everything. The day you leave all chances are gone.

I remind myself of this.

Loved your poem.
