The other night at work I was answering phones as usual,
What I heard on the other end was chilling and brutal.
A woman's awful scream and the sound of things breaking,
My pulse starts to race, her life I hope, he's not taking.
The police are quickly dispatched and on the way,
All I can do now is listen and pray.
I hear the children crying, saying "Please, Daddy Stop."
I know that he won't untill confronted by the cops.
My heart goes out to her with each hit and slap,
Then anger kicks in, no one should have to go through that.
The screaming continues, the house torn apart,
How can a husband have such a cruel heart.
I still hear her crying, begging him to stop.
He calls her a name, says "You deserve what you got."
The police arrive on the scene and put the man in cuffs,
They take him to jail but is that enough?
He'll spend the night in jail and probably bail out,
I hope when he gets out he finds she's left the lout.
But more likely than not she'll stay with her man,
And on a later night this call will come in again.

Wow....what imagery!! This is such a terrible thing to happen to anyone.....and unfortunately, it never ends...until it's too late. And it also starts a cycle where kids are concerned... Great write.... Hope somebody somewhere learns from reading it..

I don't understand why they don't at least remove the children from those situations. Instead they decide to stay and allow those horrid images to press deeply into young formative minds. Couldn't they at least protect their children? |

I'm glad that she had you on the other line to try to calm her. I know you wanted to do so much more. Don't ever let your heart get calloused by the way people treat each other. Just remember, I love you.

How sad that things like this go on in life. Very heartbreaking verse.
