well this is not exactly a poem, i have no other place to submit this that will give me feedback so im hoping i can get some here, this is a short story i wrote. i hope you like it.

The sand shined glossily beneath the rays of the sun. Sandals flip- flopped their way through the beach. A bright red visor strapped to her head and short brown curls escaped loosely from her ponytail. Katherine Parker, the best lawyer in all of town. Not that the town was very big, many people have never heard of it, Nethipolia. She laid down her bag and blanket a good distance from the shore. She loved the ocean, but not as much as Reyna, her daughter. That girl adores the ocean with a passion that burns deep inside the walls of her soul, never has Katherine seen such a thing. Seagulls flew merrily in the clear blue sky, embracing freedom. Just as Katherine was studying one of them, a familiar voice made her jump. “Hey!”, it shouted as hands were placed on her shoulder. She turned to find her husband, Will, smiling affectionately at her. “ Hello stranger”, she responded, “You nearly gave me a heart attack you know?”. He played it off with a soothing laugh and claimed a space on the blanket next to her. His arm draped over her shoulder as he pulled her near. They have been married for twenty-six years, and sixteen of those years were spent raising a daughter, Reyna.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reyna absentmindedly played with her hair. Taking a long strand of straight black hair and curling it around her finger…over and over and over again. Her history book laid out before her. Creases appear on her forehead as she tries to memorize the important dates and names that are written out before her. This is impossible , she thought to herself. She had a history test coming up, 200 questions. Talk about an evil teacher. She tried to focus on studying but soon numbers began to jumble together and her focus disappeared. She got up from her desk chair and strolled quietly to her window. A smile appeared on her face as she saw her parents hugging each other on the beach below. Her eyes then set place on the scenery, her sanctuary. She sighed loudly , remembering her plans for tonight. She had to go have dinner with Franklin Henderson. Blah. Her dad had pleaded her to go on this one date with him. You see Franklin is the son of Will’s boss, and somehow they got into a conversation about their children. His boss, Mr. Jack Henderson, kept going on and on about how Franklin never seem to go on any dates, always locked up in his room, watching T.V., says Mr. Henderson. That’s when her dad had the “brilliant” idea of setting Reyna and Franklin on a date. After a lot of pleading and some bribing, she finally gave in. The guy has probably never even talked to a girl before, he probably wore big round glasses tapped together in the center where they broke when he tripped and landed on them, he probably had sticky messy hair and wore suspenders with bright print. Reyna shook her head in dismay. What had she gotten herself into?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One leg propped up on the coffee table and one on the floor, Franklin watched T.V. Beige Carpet covered the surface of his neatly decorated living room. A lamp sat in one corner and a sofa on the other. In his hand he held the remote control, Disappointedly flipping through all the channels for a third time. He watched silently as images appeared and just as quick disappeared. “What are you doing?”, came voice from the hall. It was Mr. Henderson. “What do you think I’m doing, Dad?”. A frown has emerged on his fathers face, “Killing brain cells, now get up from that couch…you got a date tonight, remember?” Franklin let out a loud groan and opened his mouth to protest, but his dad stopped him. “Don’t say a word, I want you showered and ready to go by seven, now come on its already 6:30!” Franklin let out a low sigh and muttered something under his breath. His dad doesn’t understand him, he doesn’t even know his own son. What Franklin wants to do when he grows up is write, what his dad has planned for him to do is take business in college and work for the family corporation. He even talks about changing the name to “Henderson & Henderson”. If he only knew…
Franklin showered and dressed quick, it was 7:00 when he was done… he’s late and he could already hear his dad screaming.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Katherine set out a pot of freshly brewed coffee on the kitchen table. The kitchen lights bounced happily against the orange paint. She open the cupboard in search of a mug, but not just any mug…her special mug with the words MOM painted thickly against the dark blue background. She pulled cup after cup out of the cabinet in a frantic search for it. Footsteps entered the kitchen, by instincts she knew it was her husband. “Will”, she said, still looking in the cabinet for her mug, “Have you seen my…” Her eyes landed on the cup Will held to his lips, of course, her mug. As Will finished his sip he smiled innocently at her. Katherine posing in her mom-with-attitude position (hands on hips and a thin line stretched across her lips, one foot rhythmically tapping the floor, and the stare of the evil eye) stared at her husband. “Sorry, Hun, but you see what had happened was…” His voice drifted off to mumbling and Katherine managed to snatch her cup back. “ How many times do I have to tell you? This cup is VERY special to me, Reyna made it when she was 6 and”… “ I don’t want anything to happen to it”, Will finished off. Obviously he’s heard the speech one too many times. His wife pouted and headed to the sink to wash the cup. Will’s eyes landed on the microwave clock , 7:15, Franklin was late.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Franklin turned the key in the ignition desperately, he had to get away form his house and to Reyna’s…quick! His Mercedes rumbled and he was on his way. It was a beautiful night, the stars above him twinkled endlessly, too bad he cant admire them, he almost got into an accident trying to do just that. “187 Court” Franklin repeated to himself, over and over again trying to find Reyna’s home. He wondered if she was as excited about this as he was. He finally found the house, Coated with a light pink and the edges dusted with an off-white. He strolled up the pathway and rang the doorbell, bracing himself for tonight. He can hear the doorbell chime inside. The door opened and there stood Mr. Parker. “Well Hello, You must be Franklin”, he greeted, lending out his hand. Franklin smiled politely and shook his hand. “Come in, Come in” Will ushered. Franklin nodded and accepted, what else was he suppose to do? He sat on a ivory couch, embedded with stitching of long pink flowers. A very nice couch he noted. Mr. Parker called out to his daughter that “her date was here”. Franklin took yet another deep breath and turned his attention towards the stairs. He heard footsteps and then he saw her. A dismayed look printed on her face, her eyes looking towards the floor. She was pretty. Very pretty, he took this to note as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reyna heard the doorbell ring and her dads voice traveling up the stairs. She took one look in the mirror, convinced herself that it was only one date, nobody had to know. She took a deep breath, grabbed her purse and started to trot down the stairs. She kept her eyes glued to the stairs, not wanting to see the major geek that was awaiting her. As she reached the bottom of the steps she lifted up her eyes, only to find her dad “ He’s over there, Honey” Her dad pointed across the living room. She smiled and looked in the direction her dad pointed to. Her eyes went big for a moment then to regular size. She was right about one thing, he did have messy hair. She extended her hand as she took in all of his features. His messy , curly , brown hair that pleasantly brings out his gorgeous green eyes, his 5’10 structure and his beautiful smile. Maybe this wasn’t going to be so bad…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

They waved good-bye to her parents and made their way to his car. A Mercedes. Impressive. They started cruising along the road and by no time they were on the highway. “So where are we going exactly?” she asked over the loud music. He kept his eyes on the road and yelled back “ Rossino’s , is that ok?” She smiled, it was a very nice restaurant. “Yeah…it is”.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He looked over to see her smiling, she must like the restaurant, his dad picked it out. When they arrived they found the place to be packed. Good thing his dad made reservations. “Henderson, table for two” he told the waiter. The lights in the restaurant were dimmed. Silver and gold wallpaper lined the walls, creating a very elegant look. The waiter led them to a table off to the far corner of the restaurant. The table had a nice pasty tablecloth that cascaded beautifully to the floor. Indeed a VERY nice restaurant. They took their seats quietly. “Anything to drink?”, the waiter asked. “I’ll have a diet coke”, said Reyna. The waiter nodded and turned his head in Franklins direction “Same” he said. Now the waiter did some sort of bowing thing and left. Wow, Reyna thought, this is sure a high class place. Classical music played softly in the background , creating a graceful atmosphere. “I’ve never been here before”, Reyna admitted. Franklin laughed, “Me either”. After a few minutes of silence Reyna thought , well maybe the guy’s shy...maybe I should open up the conversation…some more. “So tell me about yourself” she said. Franklin thought for a moment, even though the girl was beautiful, she looked like the kind of girl that just wouldn’t understand him, What if he told her he wanted to be a writer, what if she told her dad and her dad tells his dad? He’d be screwed. So instead he shrugged. “Nothing much to me” he lied. She eyed him suspiciously for second and then asked, “Well what do you do for fun?”. Go out on blind dates with his fathers employees daughters, he thought sarcastically to himself. “I…hang out with friends I guess , isn’t that what everyone dose?” She smiled, “Not everyone”. “So what do you do, Reyna?” Now it was her turn to think, maybe she would just be honest. “I love to go to the beach and admire its scenery”. Yeah, she decided to be honest. Franklin thought about this, then said “cool”, and the classical music played on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“What do u think they’re doing?” Katherine asked her husband. “Having dinner”, was his only reply. Katherine sighed and rolled her eyes, “I know that, but what do you think they’re talking about? Franklin is a very handsome boy, what if he’s going too fast with her?” her voice grew with worry. “What if she needs us right now, right this moment and we don’t know!?!” Will couldn’t help but laugh, his wife was being paranoid. He glanced up and saw that mom-with-attitude position…again. “I’m sorry Honey. Its just that, well…it’s a bit ridiculous don’t you think? She’s probably having a Great time”. Mrs. Parker sighed once more and plunked herself down on the couch next to her husband. “Yeah, you’re probably right” She agreed. Just then they heard a car screech in the driveway, a door slam, the doorknob turning and someone flashing across the living to the stairs all soaked. Reyna. Will gave his wife a worried look and they both raced up the stairs after their daughter. They were both unaware that it was raining out side. Katherine knocked gently on her daughters door. “I don’t want to talk about it”, came the response from the other side. “ See, Will, I told you! I told you that boy was no good for her, he tried something on her. Didn’t he honey? I told you that boy moves to fast!” Reyna let out an aggravated groan. “No he didn’t move to fast, he didn’t move period! He was such a waste of time!” Will massaged his head, “Hun, why don’t you let us in?” the door unlocked and opened and there stood a drenched Reyna and a angry look upon her face. “Ok, so what happened?”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There they had been, having a nice conversation, laughing and joking, then Franklin messed it up. They had been talking about their parents and how demanding they can be at times, but then again their parents are all very strong individuals and professional in their careers, they had to be used to being demanding.
“ You know,” Franklin said, “I remember one time my dad came home from work, furious because he sent this idiot to make copies of an important document for him and instead of coping it, he shredded it!” They both laughed hysterically, Franklin was filled with funny stories, she loved the way he laughed. “No, no, now get this, this ones funnier. My dad had this complete moron make copies of the companies policies for two new coming agents, instead the guy makes two-hundred copies and since he had to make them at home it took up all his ink and he wanted my dad to pay him for it. My dad told the loser her wasn’t going to pay anything, I mean it was the guy’s fault. Can you believe that?, Some people…” He noticed that the grin on Reyna’s face had vanished, maybe his story wasn’t funny, he thought. Befuddled by her look he asked, “what?”. She drew in a quick breath and said “ That complete moron was MY father! He distinctly heard YOUR father say make to two-hundred copies which ran up all MY ink!” Ah, crap, was all that went through Franklins mind. After that a huge fight blew up and everyone in the restaurant stopped to stare. At last Reyna screamed “Just take me home, you jerk!” Fired by fury he yelled back “Fine! I’d LOVE to!” And that was the end of that, its too bad because Franklin and Reyna really seemed to hit it off at first.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As soon as Franklin shut the door behind him his father burst into the room. “So how was it?” Franklin scowled. “Don’t EVER set me up EVER again!”, with that the boy headed off into his room, to what Mr. Henderson thought, watch T.V. Truth was Franklin barely watched any T.V. he was always busy writing. Poems, Stories, Essays, you name it. He had 3 notebooks filled with work, but again to scared to share this with his dad. He got out a pen and let his feelings flow out of him, into a raging river one the paper in front of him. Curving his words in the begging with annoyance, but towards the end ended it with regret. Reyna was a great girl, they had a lot in common and she was just fun and comfortable to be around. Not like the other girls he’s dated. Yes, Franklin has talked to other girls and had girlfriends, his father just didn’t seem to care until now, so his father lied about him never going on any dates. Franklin thought maybe he should apologize, but then thought against it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The bell rang loudly to end second period. Reyna grabbed her stuff and made her way down to third period. Trudging along the halls, thinking about last night. “Hey Rey” greeted Angela, one of her friends. They walked along to third period together, trying to make their way thought the crowd of screaming high school students. Reyna told Angela about last night, about how she really liked Franklin but then they fought and everything got screwed up. At the sound of the name “Franklin” Angela winced. “Well” Angela said “ if he was such great guy then why did he talk about your father like that?” Reyna shrugged” He didn’t know he was my father”. “Still”, Angela argued,” He shouldn’t talk about anyone like that. Its rude”. Reyna had to agree. “Yeah, but I guess he was just trying to impress me”. Then Mr. Walker came in and the conversation was over. “Ok class, take out your homework and pass it up to the front. Today we will be working on the Pythagorean theorem. Great. “Oh, and before I forget”, continued Mr. Walker, Ms. Parker I need to speak with you after class.” Reyna nodded, then shot a quick glance at Angela that gave her that “yikes” look. Reyna thought it was impossible that Mr. Walkers mouth can move so much and she can not understand a word that the old man said. His gray hair flopping in front of his face every now and then. When someone would ask a question that he just went over his fat cheeks would flare bright red as he explained the concept again. After that excruciating and difficult math lesson Reyna walked up to Mr. Walker’s desk. “You asked to see me?”. Mr. Walker nodded and the piece of white hair fell to his face again. He quickly brushed it off and went on with his purpose “It has come to my attention that you, Ms. Parker, want to go to Jensen University.” Reyna nodded, “Yes, sir ”. Mr. Walker shook his head silently and said “well I suggest you get these grades up, Ms. Parker. You have a very low B in my class and I see that in English you are close to a D. These are nothing like your grades were in the begging of the year, you were a straight A student, what happened?”. Reyna rubbed the side of her head, “I don’t know, Mr. Walker, I don’t know.” Mr. Walker handed her a clipboard with a sheet of paper on it. On the paper where schedules for tutoring ,Math on Mondays and English on Wednesdays. “Sign up” was all Mr. Walker said, feeling she had no choice, she did.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the next Monday rolled around, Reyna wasn’t looking forward to her tutoring session. After the bell rang to end the day, as every one of her friends were heading off to their cars, Reyna was heading to room 304, for math. As she walked in she saw that he tutor was James Baker. He won best looking and smartest last year but then moved schools because he had a new home, she was sure glad he enrolled himself in the tutoring program. “Hi” He said, “Welcome to math tutoring”. Reyna smiled “Thanks”. Room 304 was a small room, a few desks here and there and only about 5 chairs, the windows were opened and she can see out to the parking lot where everyone was leaving. “Shall we get started?”. Reyna took her gaze away from the parking lot and turned to look at him, “Yeah”.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The math session had gone pretty well. James even asked her out. At least James wont call my father a complete moron, Reyna said to herself. It was Tuesday, she had a test in math today worth 3 grades. (Mr. Walker got mad at the class for not completing homework so decided to make this test worth 3 grades to get even). Yesterday they had gone over all the basis and into some more complicated math problems. James was a very good tutor. As she sat at her desk , anticipating to get the test over with, she kept thinking about Saturday night, her date with James. Somehow it didn’t feel right, but, of course, she tried her best to ignore that feeling. When Mr. Walker handed the test to Reyna he whispered “Good luck” and the pressure was on. Reyna tried to remember everything James taught her and everything she learned on her own, but the test was pretty difficult. She worked hard for 2 hours trying to figure out and double check every answer. Mr. Walker finally announced the test over. After class Reyna went up to Mr. Walker. “Um, Mr. Walker, do you think maybe you can check my paper now, I really want to know how I did”. Mr. Walker, with the hair in his face once more nodded and searched for a red pen. After what seem like eternity, which was really 2 minutes, Mr. Walker smiled and handed Reyna’s paper back to her. A wide smile spread across her face, she aced the test with an A, Wait until she told James.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Wednesday afternoon came around, and Reyna trudged on to room 206 this time, hoping maybe James is a English tutor too. When she opened the door she could have sworn her eyes popped right out of their socket. You guessed it, Mr. Franklin Henderson, at your service. Obviously Franklin was as much in shock as she was, but he recovered quickly and just started to laugh. I cannot believe this!, Reyna thought to herself. “You’re my tutor?”, Franklin stopped laughing and nodded. “Ain’t it lovely”, he asked sarcastically. Reyna rolled her eyes…the guy that just said “ain’t” is teaching her English, it was unbelievable. “Whatever, lets just do this and get it over with”. Franklin shrugged, “Fine with me”. They went over Shakespeare’s sonnets and Maya Angelou’s poems. Reyna had to admit, she was definitely impressed. He knew so much about literature and had very moving opinions and explanations on Shakespeare’s and Maya Angelou’s work. He seemed to understand so well. “Are you a writer?”, Reyna had to ask. Franklin looked up from the book, “Why would that impress you?” he asked jokingly. Reyna, as serious as could be said “Yeah, it would”. Franklin couldn’t believe it, he thought she was going to laugh at him. He got serious and said “Well, yeah I am, except my dad doesn’t know it yet, he thinks I’m always watching T.V. when really I’m writing.” Reyna looked at him as if comprehending. “I see” she said. Everything made sense to her now, his father didn’t know his own son. They went back to the sonnet’s and after a while of explaining and reading, Franklin apologized. “I’m sorry about the other night, I guess I wasn’t thinking”. Reyna smiled, how nice of him. “Its ok, neither of us were”. So everything was ok between them again. ‘So”, Franklin said, “You want to try again this Saturday?”. Saturday. James. CRAP! “Um…I cant” she said, hoping he wouldn’t ask why. “Got a date with another guy?”…Well at least he didn’t ask why. Reyna shrugged and said “Well, yeah” Franklin nodded “Well that completes today’s lesson. See you next Wednesday .” Now it was Reyna’s turn to feel like a jerk.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday came around and Reyna had to confess, she was feeling a little guilty, but it wasn’t her fault, how was she supposed to know….right? There was a knock on her door and a “Honey, James is here”.
James took her to Larios. Not exactly a Rossino’s. Larios was a pizza place that stunk of melted cheese and sweat. The floors were checkered of white and red and dirty wooden tables were lined up against the wall. No silver and gold lining this wall though, instead it was green. It looked like Christmas in the middle of spring. Who thought of these colors anyway? As they took their table a big, greasy man came up to them with an apron around him and a notebook and pen in his hands. “What will it be folks?”. Before Reyna could get a word out James spoke for her. “A coke for me and the lady and a small cheese pizza”. The big guy screamed their order across the restaurant, and the pen and notebook was for what again? “Its on its way” he said and left. “What if I was allergic to cheese?” Reyna asked, still upset he hadn’t discussed anything with her. “Are you?” Reyna shrugged “No.” James smiled “Ok then”.
After they ate he drove her home. “I’ll walk you to your door”, he said. She agreed although she didn’t really want him to. He tried to grab for her hand but she make a quick move, pretending her arm itched. James is really not her type, it was kind of hard to hold a conversation with him. He wouldn’t focus and made really rude comments, he even had wandering eyes. As they reached her door he turned to her and said “Maybe we can do this again sometime”. Maybe not, Reyna said to herself. But instead she just did a very short half way nod. Before she even knew it James was kissing her and the door to her house opened. As they both looked towards the door there stood an embarrassed Franklin. “Sorry…I-I didn’t know you guys were…um, well I had to drop off something of your fathers my father had and…well ok bye” As Franklin walked between the two of them, he met her eyes. He was obviously hurt. She hurt him. “Where’s your car?” James screamed out at him. “ I was at my friends house who lives a block over so my dad asked to drop something off for him I just walked, leaving my car at my friends house.” James nodded “Oh”. Reyna said good-bye to James and hurried quick inside locking the door behind her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Franklin walked back to his friend, Danny, house .He knocked on the door and told Danny he was leaving. “Alright man, talk to you later”. “Yeah” Franklin agreed. He got in his car and just sat there. He didn’t want to go home. Instead he drove to the end of the block and jumped someone’s fence to the beach. He started walking, just thinking about Reyna. How could he have been so dumb? He just fell for her so hard and so stupidly. The ocean bellowed in the night. Waves crashed upon each other and dragged back into to the ocean. The oceans hands spread widely across the sand foaming at he fingers. He stopped walking and looked up at the nights sky. The stars shined so beautifully and brightly he was taken by awe. The night lay so black and heavy while the stars shined so vividly and light. He felt someone beside him and jumped. He was almost sure he was busted for jumping those peoples fence. Instead there stood Reyna. Hair blowing in the wind, eyes reflecting sorrow. “Didn’t mean to startle you.” she said. “Its ok, I’m not even suppose to be here, am I at your backyard?” She smiled taking in all his features as she had the first time she met him. “No, mines two houses down.” “Oh” he said, and quickly glanced away. With his eyes on the ground he asked, “So did you have fun tonight?”. She thought back to Larios. “Lets put it this way, I had ten times more fun on my date with you.” He looked up as soon as he heard this, had he heard right? “What?” he said,…he couldn’t have possibly heard right. “James is a “complete moron” and a pig”, she said laughing. “That might be, but you still kissed him”. She had a disgusted look on her face now “Correction, he kissed me. Very Unfortunate, I didn’t even know he did it until you opened the door.” Franklin was trying to hide his smile. “So you don’t like him?” An even more disgusted look on her face appeared “What are you, crazy?”. Franklin laughed. “With you”, Reyna kept on “I feel like I finally know who I am, kind of crazy since we haven’t really talked all that much.” Franklin now looked at her, face as serious as Reyna had been that first night they went out, only he’s not angry, just shocked at her confession. He took a step toward her and lifted up her chin with his hand, never had it felt so right. He kissed her lightly. After they separated Reyna’s blue eyes sparkled for the first time.
