Suicide

Angela climbed to the roof
of the apartments and spread
her wings to fly away.
She longed to be
a butterfly gliding
across a wild flower meadow,
free on the breeze
of sunny day.
But, she fluttered
like a moth, back and forth,
boys, alcohol,
and drugs.
So, she leapt for sky
but, the bushes
broke her fall.
“Why?”
“Because it was raining
and I wanted to see the sun.”
Nursed back to health,
in a fog of ‘happy pills’,
she said she saw the light.
She finished the vial and smiled,
“I don’t need these any more.”
and found a taller building.

Thanks for writing this take on the Daedalus myth, sad as it is.
So refreshing, moving, saddening, compelling . . . I could go on, but I think i've painted a picturesque enough comment by now.
Keep writing, please. |
