Bohemian Mothers

Contributed by Elena on Monday, 26th July 2004 @ 03:24:51 PM in AEST
Topic: Tributes

Bohemian mothers cry their babies to sleep
And dance their husbands awake
As they dust their trailers with sunflowers,
Erasing the most critical mistake.

A loftier grain of emotion makes their hearts beat.
A much more sensitive scale of tone
Is what makes the chorus of Bohemian women
Sirens in the vaporous light of the moon.

Still, when they come no-one will have them.
We take pains in ushering them on
Their way of life is a threat to our mindset.
Yet they vanish in the penumbra of dawn.

But when I watch them laughing at the riverside
Young and old, hand in hand, playfully
I envy their ways and their wanton behaviour:
They emancipate the Gypsy in me.

I like this very much. I like that "dance their husbands awake" line. :-)

I love this one. Its typical of your style and appreciation, woven with a skillful mind.

Well worth the wait - the second stanza was excellently expressed. Much appreciated, thanks!

Keep writing (more regularly!)

Elena I truly think you are blessed with beauty for words.
This poem took my breath away......I could see all the words convey......how very lovely, mysterious in a way......and yet I was captured from the very first phrase.
What a delightful read!
Poetic hugs
