Heart of Stone

Heart of Stone

Well this face you see
Really isn't me
It's just skin deep
All you're willing to see
Not bothering to go beneath
Afraid of what you'll find
If you cross the line
And look with more than eyes
Afraid of what is there
Because you might care

You'll never be more
Than what you were before
A no one with a heart of stone
Someone lonely, always cold
Someone that will die alone
Forlorn without any hope

In you all I see within
Is what I've sought to find
I'm finding what I don't like
Underneath in your soul
I see your heart of stone
There the mistakes are carved
The pain left raw

You look behind
To who you were before
Always having a heart of stone
You look behind
Seeing how you've been blind
To what's inside
Denying what you knew you had
In you the heart of stone resides

The mirror shatters
And then you whisper
Well this face you see
Really isn't me
It's just skin deep
But underneath
There is worse to see
The heart of stone that resides
Inside of me

Your writing here is very well done..I can relate here in more ways then one..The heart of stone that resides in myself at times to..This is one of your best I think.
