Train Of Thought

Contributed by pvd on Friday, 23rd July 2004 @ 04:40:40 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

When I boarded the express,
Lao Tsu punched my ticket
Jesus, Krishna, and Buddha,
were sitting, playing cards.

“Poker?” I asked
Lao Tsu said,
“No! It is the game
that can not be named
it is the eternal game”

“What?”
“The nameless is the beginning
of heaven and earth.”

“God,” Jesus chimed in,
“We’re playing God.”

“And who is God?” I asked.
“I am” the three replied in unison.
Moses and Mohammed were watching.
“And what about you?” I asked.

“We don’t gamble.” they answered.
They were only conductors,
so I asked “Who is the engineer?
Who is driving this train?”

“You are,” was their reply.
“Where am I going?”
“The tracks are laid,
follow the signals.”

I got off the train
I’m in no hurry
so I think I’ll walk.

Extremely unique. It appears like a joke written in poetry format. I am not quite sure my reaction to this one. It drew me back for a second read but I am still unsettled with it.

LoL this is awesome, and definitely needs a second perusal to fully understand. Cleverly written words - I realised as soon as I picked up the "playing God" thing that this poem would be an interesting metaphorical experience. What I like is that your metaphors aren't so distorted and shrouded in mystery that they can't be easily understood; it's a nice change from other poems out there. The simplicity of your technique also suits the lighthearted tone (thank God, npi, for the latter, we need more literature like this). All in all a nice, humorous read. Kudos for the original concept too.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
