My Motivation

Contributed by thunderwolf on Friday, 23rd July 2004 @ 12:38:56 PM in AEST
Topic: DreamsandWishes

When I was young, my personality being formed,
I'd look in the closet at my dad's uniform.
My dad was a deputy, the law sworn to uphold,
Would I have what it takes, could I be so bold?
The questions started coming pretty early in school,
"What do you want to be? A cop? Thats cool."
When my dad first found out, I think he was proud,
His son didn't follow and hang with the wrong crowd.
I knew deep in my heart, this was the job for me,
To follow my dad's footsteps and become a deputy.
From a young age I enjoyed helping others,
Though most other people wouldn't even bother.
Holding open doors and helping change flats,
Helping the neighbors find their lost cat.
Others would ask me "Why are you so nice?"
In my mind I would wonder, why have a heart as cold as ice?
As the years passed by, my desire did grow,
The life of a lawman, I wanted to know.
Then I met the girl, who was the love of my life,
Would she be willing to be a deputy's wife?
She said she loved me, by my side she would stay,
Through all of the worry and stress along the way.
My dream became reality that day in August,
When with pride a badge was pinned on my chest.
To serve and protect, I strove to uphold,
Trying to keep crime from gaining a foothold.
