In kindergarten
I'm sent out
Into the world
With a brown
Paper bag
And not a care
In the world
In primary
I had a satchel
To carry my books
And my brown paper bag
To and fro
My daily problems
Were still miniscule
As I ascended
The grades
My satchel got heavier
More books
Bigger bag
Weightier cares
In high School
I needed
A big zippered binder
To hold all my stuff
But I got rid
Of the bag
And ate
In the cafeteria
In university
Same binder
But I carried
More books
Skipped lunch
Money problems -
How can I
Snow the grants
Committee?
In the world
Of work
I carry a briefcase
In it I carry
A brown paper bag
The rest of the space
Is taken up with
My problems
My question is-
Am I making any
Progress here?

Great poem, Stoney. It does make one wonder, doesn't it!? I often wondered the same thing as I tried to gulp coffee and a sandwich down at my desk while doing paperwork between clients. Do we ever really make progress?

Evidence of your progress, friend - is not to be found in your briefcase, but within yourself. The fact alone that you've asked the question - makes me inclined to answer with an absolute YES.
Having skipped one too many lunches myself - I've learned to find nurishment elsewhere,
