What is Poetry?

What is Poetry?

Do you know what poetry is?
Is it meant to let words live?

You let it express what's within
Finding resemblance
Shedding light on ignorance

You give it reasons for being
By writing in meanings
Another way of communicating
To give new understanding

In the words we weave
Are stories to be seen
By those who use imagery
Sometimes there are twists
That are there to deceive
Giving you opinions to believe
Using lies for sympathy
Or using truth to good means

You give words life
Every time you write
Or is that a lie?
Some of you might find
It otherwise

As revealed in your great verse.. it is indeed different things to different people. I have a site with all my work and as you can see, I had my own version of the same topic.
Poetry is the emotion of the soul, that part that is only shown on the pages of printed text. It's flow can be gentle or raging, funny or sad. A picture painted with printed word. It's hue is the true color of the writer's heart.

This is what poetry is to me, and what I strive to convey.

Poetry should please by a fine excess and not by singularity. It should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts, and appear almost as a remembrance.
In all of your writes you do just that.

You are poetry.

Okay, fine. This isn't your strongest effort, but I miss your thought process just the same.
